Club On The Defensive When Discriminatory Do's and Don'ts List Leaks Onto Social Media.

Color us not shocked at all. Another club/event/group in the LGBT community likes pretty people only.  Apparently when you take no fats, no fems, no Asians and flip it down under to Australia, it becomes no skinny, no females, no Indi.

POOF DOOF -  a gay club for homos (386 Chapel St, South Yarra / Melbourne, Australia) is coming under fire for a "Brief for Photographers" that was shared/leaked onto social media. POOF DOOF representatives have said the document is from 2011, does not reflect their current policies and practices, and was shared by a photographer that no longer works POOF DOOF events (bad blood? revenge?).

So what does the "Brief" say?  The full document is at end of article, but in a nut shell, it directs photographers of POOF DOOF events to focus on certain people. Abbreviated we see that:

  • pics should be just taken of hot boys with muscles and drag queens, but only the best drag queens
  • pics should NOT be taken of skinny, messy, basic boys with bad skin, no girls (no one is here to see girls) and no Indi boys (we're hoping they meant boys from Indi, a region in Northeastern Victoria and not Indian boys, either is bad).

So they want pics of pretty people, desirable people, people you'd want to lick. They said no to the skinny, pimpled, banal, girls (apparently girls are not homos?), and no people they have shot before. POOF DOOF was scrambling to do damage control and even was chatting with people personally on Facebook as seen here.

So the Brief was real and they admit it. Nic Holland (Facebook says he is PR & Media Manager at Eleven: A Music Company & John Watson Management and HBIC at POOF DOOF) spoke to the validity of the document ina  Facebook post. The quality of the screen capture is a little rough (sent from an Australian reader to us) but it states that the brief was from 2011, but was "very lazily used as recently as 2015... there's no excuse, the brief is trash... I can only say as a club we evolved over time."

Apologies don't go far in this day an age, no matter how hard we try. They don't resonate well or as far as negative news does.

Stepping up from personal chats, POOF DOOF posted their response about the leak and how wrong it was.  Many called them out for not simply using the word "SORRY", but they did say "we would like to apologise."

The post just before the apology on POOF DOOF's Facebook page was promoting an ALL INCLUSIVE event. It reads:

INTRODUCING All Sorts w/ Seth Troxler at Riva

People saw the Facebook apology and were pissed and rightfully so! One Facebook comment was posted with a picture of the "Brief" and reads:

Wow POOF DOOF, personally I find this absolutely disgraceful, especially for a “Queer” venue, supporter, event etc. It’s all well and good to say that this I s 7+ years old and that you don’t stand by these virtues, but 7+ years ago Australia LGBTQ+ people were still fighting for equality, and you have the nerve to create this memo(even if it was internal, I wonder what else was for internal eyes only) that literally classes certain genders, identities and personal images as unworthy, subpar and “boring & repetitive” which in turn divides the very people you claim to support and identify as. Shame on you. Damage done.

and another reads:

You know how when you transition you become afraid that you might no longer be welcome at places you used to go run by the most toxic of the gays?

Well, that fear would be well founded.

I mean, theres just so much that is fucked in this by POOF DOOF I dont even know where to start. It's GOLD STAR GAYTRIARCHY.

"No one would be there to see me" now if I went, but luckily I wouldn't ever go again when I'm in Melb.

Melbourne sisters, cancel this bitch.

Are we raking them over the coals? Should we be? Our mouths should not drop that far for we know this kind of chat had to exist and at least we know it is practiced.  We now business like the pretty.  We know they like to associate themselves with the "more desirable, more lickable" people. How many big gay event advertisements in your country have you seen with "average looking" people on them?  Living in Southern Florida, all we see are beach body boys for White Party this and that and the other, which underwear model is going to be showing his goods at the next party, and which gay men's guest house has the prettiest model in their ads. And it if is a bear party, bring on the former twinks and aberzombies that have now let the hair trimming routine go and have found a new home under the labels of muscle bears and otters. all us bears definitely do not look like nor want that, but that is what is shoved up onto the posters because, hey, they have muscles, they must be desirable for everyone.

Every time I see one of those posters, I think, yep, seen him on the ad for the event in 2015, 2009, and 2001, but I've never seen him actually at an event.  Bars look to put their best foot forward. The look to sell the fantasy.  What we need to let them know is our fantasy is often just a fun reality.  We know we are not going to see that model you are airbrushing onto your ad at the party.  Show us someone that will be there!

When we added more contributing writers to the pool here at Instinct, I was excite to have a variety of age, race, geographic, flamboyancy, masculinity, body sizes, likes, dislikes, and so on.  What was interesting was, I didn't go searching for it.  We just put an ad out for writers that wanted to contribute and a nice healthy mix of applicants rose to the surface.  It just worked out that we have variety.

POOF DOOF just posted on January 5th new pictures to their POOF DOOF POWER POOFS album and have referenced to it after the "Brief" scandal hit. They all still look beautiful and cream of the crop to me, no?

Well, the second picture.  Who is that?

Hi everyone,

If you didn’t know, I’m Dawn Lee and I currently live in Melbourne, Australia. For some insight, let me tell you all about who I am. I first started working in the Melbourne queer scene in February 2017. I am a 23 year old trans WOC.

Dawn does a great Facebook post about the situation.  It's lengthy and spot on.  She tells us a little about our history and her being hired to work at POOF DOOF in June of 2018. The whole post is a good read (and at the end of this post), but what I want to draw you to is her last paragraph. She basically says, yes, there is a problem, an internal one, let's talk about it, remedy it, stop being the victims, and then fight the bigger fights.

I’m sick of this community waiting for a Knight in Shining Armour to be our saviour to rescue us, instead of being our own saviours and doing it ourselves. What I have taken away from this all isn’t about just the dated criteria, or that everyone’s so self absorbed in trying to be the victim that the wrong people are being punished. It’s that there is really no hope for this community. We have a chance now to come together as a community to educate, continually grow and help each other like the adults we claim to be- not tear each other down at any and every opportunity like we’re back in high school again. There are bigger demons for us to be killing together as a community, instead of revisiting something that is dead. You all make statuses needing help or wanting someone to stand up for the community, when are you going to stop viewing yourselves as the victims and help the few of us fighting for the community alone?

I think we needed that Dawn. I think I needed that.  I had my pitchfork at the ready!

We drop our mouths, point the fingers, take to social media to vilify and detest, degrade others with a tweet and a text, and move on. And here I thought it was just the 'Merikan't way of doing things, but it seems that it is worldwide.

Here's a scenario ... My friend Christian decided to not go home for Christmas this past December and he will never talk to his parents again. Why? Even though he had a healthy relationship with them in November and has had one for a good 12 years, because they said some anti-gay things over a decade ago, before he came out, he decided to bring their comments back up and put it between him and his family. Is that the right thing to do?  Hell no! How many of your parents said negative things about LGBT people before you came out and how many need a little help or correcting when it comes to transgender topics?

The scenario mentioned above is fake, of course, but is it not too far from the truth and how we have acted recently? Doesn't it seem that we have a huge hair across our asses and we love it!  We woke up on the wrong side of the bed and we're waiting for someone to poke the sleeping bear. Okay, enough of that.  We already have issues affecting us, but it seems that we are ready to jump the gun for the next scandal, to see how we can be the victim, how we can put our hurt into a scenario a half a world away, LITERALLY! I am in no way saying the practices mentioned in the "Brief" are acceptable, but we react before we try to learn more.

Let me repeat something from the very beginning of this post:

POOF DOOF representatives have said the document is from 2011, does not reflect their current policies and practices, and was shared by a photographer that no longer works POOF DOOF events.

I'm mad too that the document existed in the first place. I'm mad too that it took so long to have people support marriage equality in the United States. I'm mad too that Hillary Clinton didn't support marriage equality from the beginning. Is it time to bring that last one up so we can vilify her and make sure she doesn't run for President again? She didn't believe we were equal then so she can't now! Here! Here!

If POOF DOOF is no longer practicing what is in the "Brief for Photographers", we wish them the best of luck in getting out from under the avalanche of hate coming their way.

If you have not changed POOF DOOF, now is the time to do so. Use this as a call from your people for inclusion. Look for the people that have their hand out.  Some will come to you and say, how can we help.  Others will be still standing there with pitchforks and picket signs. And maybe the sharing of this "Brief" will affect other businesses in the community and a call for sharing pics of every day people and not just the supposed elite.

And those that feel people cannot change ... are you going home for Christmas next year?

Calgary Priest: Rainbow Flag Invented By Satan, Represents “Lawlessness,” & “Break From Natural Order.”

Remembering back to my teaching days, some of my schools were more strict than others when it came to choosing books, but all of them didn't really check up on what I was teaching within the classroom.  I loved the freedom, I didn't take liberties with that freedom to teach my own beliefs or at least I didn't intend to do so. But I don't think I ever went out on a limb to degrade like one educator just did.

Fr. Jerome Lavigne, the vicar for education at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary, said in a recent sermon the rainbow pride flag was invented by Satan and represents “lawlessness” and a “break from the natural order.”

These kind of comments make it open season on LGBTQ youth, saying it’s OK to openly discriminate against them.  It’s not fine to bring those beliefs into a public school environment ... These are the kinds of comments that breed hatred, violence and discrimination. - Kristopher Wells, an associate professor at MacEwan University who specializes in sexual and gender minority youth, education and culture. - thestar.com

Wells said the diocese needs to immediately remove Lavigne from his position as he visits public schools to represent the church at events and helps with confirmation preparation.  He also says the diocese needs to apologize for Lavigne's statements.

According to thestar.com, Lavigne has a recent timeline of questionable affiliations and statements.

  • Affiliated with white nationalist Faith Goldy.
  • February 2016 - Invited Godly to Calgary for a panel discussion about sexual education in schools, a year and a half before Goldy would appear on a neo-Nazi podcast.
  • February 2018 - Lavigne gave his sermon about the pride flag, called “The Rainbow,” to be later removed by the Diocese.
  • September 2018 - Lavigne gave sermon called “Origins of Evil,” saying “there’s no such thing as ‘God made me this way’” when it comes to homosexuality. Video of the sermon was deleted after StarMetro sent a list of questions to Lavigne.

One Facebook member shared this on Fr Jerome Lavigne's page:

Just read about your comments about rainbow flags. THANK YOU for reaffirming my decision to leave the church. You are wrong but then again it was common place to burn witches at the stake
Some of us choose to EVOLVE.

Lavigne belongs to a Catholic school district that is facing some political and social bumps in the road recently itself. faced controversy.

  • December 2018 - District stated teachers working in schools must sign contracts that bar them from having same-sex relationships.
  • Two Calgary Catholic School District teachers are alleging they were discriminated against because of their sexuality.

In a statement, Calgary Bishop William McGrattan did not apologize for Lavigne’s comments or answer questions about whether the priest would face discipline.

With such turmoil within the walls of the Catholic Church, heck, most churches, leaders may need to have a tighter reign on what their representatives are saying.

Alt-Right Video Game Has Player Eliminate Gay and Transgender People

As a perpetual pessimist, I am generally not surprised by how horrible people can be but today I am. According to LGBTQ Nation, there exists a video game in which the main objective is to shoot and kill gay and transgender people in a nightclub, reminiscent of the very real massacre that occurred at Pulse Nightclub in 2016.

Chris Cantwell, an out-and-proud Nazi, is the creator of this game. In the past, he showed the world how fragile he is by breaking down in tears on YouTube after hearing that he had a warrant out for his arrest for inciting violence at a White Supremacist rally in Charlottesville, VA last year.

The game, titled Angry Goy II, is a revision of an earlier version of the game in which players were tasked with pushing Jewish people into ovens. In this new version, players are asked to target and destroy other minority groups such as gay men and transgender people. The game starts off with breaking into a nightclub named "LGBTQ+ Agenda HQ" where the player is met with gay men meant to look like child predators because of their giant erect penises being out in the open and having signs on the outside of the building that say "Children Welcome."

In a promotional statement for the game, Cantwell refers to gay men as "mongrels" and "degenerates" that should be destroyed by using "guns, knives, pepper spray, and more." He also sent a statement to then-Alt-right platform Gab saying that “All White men should hunt down and mercilessly kill as many trannies, f—-ts, n—–s, k—s, and cucks as they possibly can, in the new hit game Angry Goy 2!” Oh god... I'm genuinely disturbed by this. And I doubt his claim that it's a "hit game."

The Pulse Nightclub shooting was a horrible tragedy and it was bad enough that people were applauding Omar Mateen for killing so many gay people, but the fact that someone actually made a video game about it sickens me to no end.

It's truly depressing to know that there are people out there who still think like this. Nazism didn't work in the 1940s and it won't work now and we can all hope that these types of people remain a (relatively) harmless minority.

I'm going to pretend to not know about this game.

Tanzania Governor Declares Witch Hunt Against Homosexuals in African Province Dar es Salaam

I’m writing this on Halloween. Not to sound like a downer, but this is a reminder that nothing is scarier than reality.

Paul Makonda, governor of Tanzania’s capital Dar es Salaam, announced on Monday an anti-gay witch hunt, threatening to arrest and prosecute people suspected of being homosexual. This government round-up will begin Nov. 6.

“I have information about the presence of many homosexuals in our province,” he told the press. He called on citizens of the province to report any information about homosexuals.

Makonda has held the office since 2016, and he is a fervent Christian. He said on Monday that homosexuality "tramples on the moral values of Tanzanians and our two Christian and Muslim religions.”

Makonda said that he expected backlash from foreign governments, but insisted he’d “prefer to anger those countries than to anger God.”

“These homosexuals boast on social networks,” he said. “Give me their names. My ad hoc team will begin to get their hands on them next Monday."

Homosexuality is illegal in Tanzania; same-sex activity between men is punishable by as much as a life sentence.

Per the country’s penal code, it is criminal to have “carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature.”

On the grounds that they promote homosexual activity Tanzania stopped providing healthcare to AIDS patients last year.

An estimated 33,000 people died of AIDS-related illnesses in 2016.

Police in Dar es Salaam arrested 12 men suspected of homosexual activity last year. Over four million people reside there.

Holocaust Memorial Vandalized With Homophobic Message

A memorial In Tel Aviv was vandalized recently with the words "Death to LGBT" spray painted on the side, according to The Jerusalem Post. The statue, shaped like a pink triangle, represents the LGBTQ lives lost during the Holocaust, as LGBTQ people were required to affix a pink triangle to their concentration or extermination camp uniforms. Anywhere between 5,000 to 15,000 LGBTQ were sent to concentration camps and certain experiments in Buchenwald were designed to "cure" homosexuality.

The graffiti was discovered by witnesses on Thursday, October 25th. A picture of the vandalism was posted to Facebook by Ron Huldai, Tel Aviv's mayor. He then posted a picture of the memorial after the graffiti was cleared and he said: “We will continue to act and to protect members of the community as we have done so far.”

Others have also spoken out against this hateful message, such as mayoral candidate Asaf Zamir, who was disturbed by the crime and said that he does not have the words to describe how he feels about people who would wish death on the LGBT community and will continue to fight for the rights of LGBTQ people. Etai Pinkas, the chairman of the LGBTQ Community Center spoke out as well, saying that it is not correct to assume that Tel Aviv is a wonderful place, as this vandalism shows that LGBT people still have to fight to be accepted.

Tel Aviv police have opened an investigation. Hopefully, they will find the person or persons responsible for this incident. Regardless, writing such a hateful message should never be accepted and I am glad that so many people are condemning this heinous crime.

Anti-Gay Banner Found Hanging in Northern Ireland

I'm saddened but not surprised. This hateful banner was found hanging over an overpass on an expressway in Northern Ireland, according to Attitude. How annoying that people are still like this.

Both the Irish and LGBTQ people have historically been subjected to unfair persecution. Seriously, go read "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift and... pretty much anything I've written on here. It's mostly negative. The banner was discovered on October 19th by Amanda Ferguson. She posted a picture of the banner on Twitter with the caption "Oh dear. Hate mongers at their work again. This anti-Irish, homophobic banner has appeared on the M1 between junction 10 (Oxford Island) and junction 9 (International Airport). I can’t see this taking off tbh. Just not as catchy as: No woman, no cry!"

The banner has since been taken down and Declan Kearney, a Sinn Féin (a left-wing political party in Ireland) called the banner "reprehensible" and said that this hate message is not indicative of the views of the majority of Irish people, as Ireland has recently thrown one of "the most vibrant, most colourful Pride parades" which sent an LGBTQ-affirming message to the people of Ireland.

As a gay man and an Irish (well, partially at least) person, this banner really bothered me. What I don't understand is how being Irish and/or gay has any impact on anyone. It doesn't make sense to me.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian Meet Violently Anti-LGBT Ugandan President, Gift Him With Sneakers

This is one of those instances where I find it straight-up impossible to deliver the news objectively, because these people make my skin crawl all the way off my body.

As reported by the ever-reliable Pink News, self-proclaimed “Rap God” Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian West paid a visit on Monday to Ugandan president  Yoweri Museveni. The highly religious leader is notoriously, violently anti-gay.

Since 2014, homosexuality has been illegal in Uganda via the parliament’s Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Act—punishable by life in prison.

In 2009, it was reported that Museveni backed a proposed bill that would make same-sex activity punishable by death.

By all accounts, it was a friendly visit. West and Kardashian West gifted Museveni a pair of Yeezy sneakers.

Museveni took to Twitter later on Monday with the following message:

“I welcome American entertainment stars Kanye West and @KimKardashian to Uganda. I held fruitful discussions with the duo on how to promote Uganda’s tourism and the arts. I thank Kanye for the gift of white sneakers. Enjoy your time in Uganda. It is the true Pearl of Africa.”

West is an outspoken (if often unintelligible) supporter of president Donald Trump.

Kardashian West was recently (perhaps rightly) accused of homophobia after she seemed to accuse Tyson Beckford of being gay.

Conservative Activist Linda Harvey Says Gay Sex Ed Is Wrong Because It Leads To Oral Sex

Poor straight people. According to a conservative activist, they are not get enough head.

As shared over at JoeMyGod, Anti-LGBTQ activist Linda Harvey has popped up on the internet again to share more hateful rhetoric.

We won’t share too many details about who Harvey is, simply because we’d then be promoting her, but know that she’s a very vocal and angry advocate for extreme conservative views. If you’re thinking, “Why are you spreading hate or giving her a platform?” Well, it’s mostly because what Harvey says is so stupid that it’s funny.

Recently Harvey wrote an article on Barbwire titled Kids Tutored in "Pleasure" Despite STD Epidemic, itself incredibly conservative, to rant about how teens are having sex and dancing with the devil (I’m paraphrasing, of course).

While all that’s pretty standard for conservative rhetoric, it’s these next few words that caused a few social media posts and articles to pop up as a response.

“Let’s not forget the deadly contribution of ‘LGBTQ’ advocates who demand ‘inclusive’ sex ed — i.e., lessons that outline in detail how kids can engage in anal and oral sex, the sex practices of homosexuals,” she wrote.

She then said:

“These lessons often encourage masturbation and pornography use. The “gay” community explodes over any attempt to restrict homosexual access to youth. But the evidence is everywhere that their influence is despicable.”

She added:

“Responsibility in sex is unpopular among today’s ‘hip’ educators. Bowing to social justice warriors, rabid feminists and ‘LGBTQ’ advocates, abstinence is discarded as the equivalent of racism. Never mind that this reasoning is short on reality and long on mythology.”

Of course, many people on the internet had a few thoughts on these words from the queen of hate-mongering.

What should our kids be taught in sex education? Clearly Linda Harvey has no clue.

Gay Couple Brutally Attacked In Russia Before World Cup

Just prior to the first match of this year’s World Cup in St. Petersburg, a gay couple were brutally attacked.

A Frenchman identified only as O. Davrius and his partner, who hasn’t been named, were physically assaulted and robbed of their money and cellphones. Davrius suffered a fractured jaw, an open head injury and possible brain damage.

The opening match in the 2018 World Cup was between two anti-LGBTQ+ nations: Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Davrius and his partner were reportedly targeted and attacked after they caught a taxi.

Perhaps you know this already, but FIFA is the worst. Just the absolute worst. Driven solely by the desire for profit, they’ve ignored the civil rights and safety of fans, and even players, for decades. They’ve received a great deal of criticism for the decision to hold this year’s games in Russia, especially in light of the incarcerations and executions in Chechnya.

Organizations for LGBTQ+ soccer fans have been receiving threats for months leading up to the World Cup. One such group, Pride in Football, received messages saying LGBTQ+ soccer fans would be hunted down and killed.

Russia’s government is openly homophobic. Anti-LGBTQ+ crimes in the nation have risen sharply since 2013, when the “gay propaganda” law came into play. This law bans any positive mention of LGBTQ+ people or rights in any place accessible to minors.

Nevertheless, in the weeks leading up to the opening ceremonies, this year’s World Cup organizing committee told LGBTQ+ fans that no harm would come to them at this year’s series.

In four years, FIFA is holding the World Cup in Qatar, where homosexuality is flat-out illegal.

Candidate Who Harassed Trans Woman In Ladies Room Lost Her Congressional Race

Republican congressional candidate Jazmina Saavedra attempted to sway conservative California voters by stalking a transgender woman on live video, but on primary night voters showed no appetite for the hate.

When the votes were tallied, hate came in third place as Saavedra lost her race behind a candidate who had already dropped out of the race.

Incumbent Democrat Nanette Barragan beat her competition for California's 44th Congressional district in a landslide with almost 66% of the vote. Second place finisher was a Democrat Aja Brown, mayor of Compton, who dropped out of the race months ago.

Then in third place was Trump-devotee Saavedra, who received about 10 % of the vote. Coming in fourth was Clueless star Stacey Dash, who also ended her campaign before Tuesday's primary.

Saavedra, a Nicaraguan immigrant, was running on an anti-immigration/anti-transgender/anti-abortion platform.

In mid-May, Saavedra filmed herself stalking and accosting a trans woman at an L.A. Denny's.

Saavedra repeatedly misgendered the trans woman on a Facebook Live feed and followed her throughout the restaurant hurling insults like "sick" and "stupid."

Armed with a selfie stick to make sure her face was clearly seen and proudly sporting her Trump sweatshirt, Saavedra barged into the bathroom attacking the unidentified woman. When she entered the restroom, the restaurant manager is already inside the ladies’ restroom, outside the stall where the trans woman is trying to do her business in peace.

"Why are you using the ladies' room?" Saavedra demanded to know. The trans woman in the stall shouts back, “You guys are harassing me…you’re invading my privacy,”

"You're invading my privacy because I'm a woman!" Saavedra responds.

As the manager removed Saavedra from the restroom, the would-be politician candidate yells, "You violated my rights! You're sick. Stupid, sick!”

The woman eventually left the restaurant and Denny's corporate office later released a statement affirming its support for transgender customers and their right to use the restroom of their choosing.

“There is no place for discrimination of any kind in our restaurants,” wrote Dennys. “We do apologize to our transgender guest and others in the restaurant that had to endure another customer’s disrespectful behavior.”

Facebook removed Saavedra's video, saying it didn't comply with their anti-bullying policies.

Saavedra reposted the video and was put in a time-out by the social media giant.
