Adam Rippon Just Scored A HUGE Gig! (UPDATE)
Well that didn't take long! 2018 PyeongChang fan favorite athlete Adam Rippon has already reached sports celebritydom, but he's about to even further extend his fame by becoming an NBC correspondent for the remainder of the 2018 winter games! Rippon struck a chord with audiences for his unfiltered, insightful opinions, and we can only imagine that he will keep reality very much so in check for the remainder of the games. Now if only we could just get Rippon, Tara Lipinski, and Johnny Weir in the same commentators booth, we'd have a full-blown sass attack Cerberus on our hands!
A spokesman for NBC, Greg Hughes, spoke with USA Today and stated that Rippon "will work for the network on a variety of platforms, including television, digital and social media." Versus all of those analog platforms. USA Today points out that NBC's choice to feature Rippon is significant, because it tangentially endorses his hard line against the Trump presidency. Rippon has been outspoken against Mike Pence, and he is "one of a few U.S. athletes who said they will not go to the White House for a post-Olympic celebration hosted by President Trump," according to USA Today. Not able to see Donald Trump play hide the doll hands with a Playboy Bunny. What a loss that will be.
You guys already know my opinion on Johnny Weir's prominence at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, so you can only imagine my excitement over having double the fabulousness for the next week. How about you? Let us know in the comments!
WELL, Adam is even cooler than we thought. He has turned down the position so that he can stay in the Olympic village with his teammates.
“I am so flattered that NBC wanted me to work as a correspondent,” Rippon said on NBCSN. “But if I took this opportunity, I would have to leave the Olympic team and I would have to leave the Olympic Village.”
Maybe in four years!
